Ode to Frankie & Poquito

Oh no. My Amo is crying again! She’s really sad. What’s up?….Why?….here let me lick your face (I love that salt from your eyes). Here let me clean your face. I don’t understand. What’s wrong? Come on, let me get my ball and we’ll play and you’ll laugh and be happy again. Come on Amo. Come on. . .Then she told me. My friend Frankie was just hit by a car and went to the Rainbow Bridge. Oh no – that’s the place that Poquito went to. That means I will never see her again! My Amo held me tight and said “Don’t worry. You’ll see Frankie and Poquito again, at the Rainbow Bridge.”

“Amo, tell me what the Rainbow Bridge is. I don’t remember.” Then she tells me. . .

“Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. Right now Frankie and Poquito are playing in those hills. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. Here Frankie and Poquito can eat as much as they want any time they want because you don’t get sick or fat!

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor (remember how old Poquito got?) Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss those who were very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Their bright eyes are intent; their eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to run from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together....

I miss you Poquito and Frankie, but I’ll see you again. . . at the Rainbow Bridge! Meet me there.
